What's at Stake
This November, citizens across Trimble County will go to the polls to vote for a new President. Also on this ballot will be a question concerning Trimble County Public Schools. As you may know, our school board passed a tax levy to be strictly used for renovation and construction. That levy was challenged and is now on the November ballot, allowing our community as a whole to make this important decision.
The Nickel Ballot Initiative will increase property taxes by 5.7 cents on every $100 of property. (Motor vehicles are not included in this increase.) That "nickel" will generate $290,670 dollars locally and qualify for an additional $168,180 from the state every year to be used to renovate and construct school facilities. Our Local Planning Committee developed a District Facility Plan that makes Trimble County High School the priority for renovation and new construction.
We are grateful to our maintenance department who work tirelessly to make sure our facilities look good and function well for our students, but their attention and ingenuity can only go so far. Heating and air conditioning units are patched together to continue to provide a comfortable environment for learning. TCHS and TCMS are category 5 schools. School over 30 years old in urgent need. When both are in operation both the district must constantly spend funds on repairs, over $72,000 last school year. TCHS has already cost $35,000 to make certain areas wheel chair accessible.
By supporting the Nickel Ballot Initiative, you are investing in the facilities of Trimble County Public Schools, which will allow us to improve them and create the optimal space for our students to learn.  This site is full of information about the Nickel Initiative, its impact on Trimble County Public Schools and its impact on you, the taxpayer.
