                    Information about Trimble County High School Facilities

  • Trimble County High School is the oldest with prts aging at 54 years, 49 years, and smaller sections at 22 years.

  • TCHS is 22 on the Parson's List as a facility and THE number 1 high school facilitye on the list for urgent need.

  • Several heating and air conditioning units are  beyond the normal lifespan of the units.

  • Classrooms that were built 30 years do not fit the current educational delivery system.

  • The condition of both the interior and the exterior of TCHS is extremely poor.

  • There are many classrooms that still have asbestos tile on the floors

  • There is mold and mildew throughout the building and on the floors

  • There is a major issue with the roof over the cafeteria and the kitchen.

  • There are leaks in the roof in the newer section of the building.

  • There are cracks in the foundation, in inner and outer walls, and window frames.

  • Lighting in most classroms is dim compared to KDE standards.

How the Nickel Tax will Improve Trimble County Public Schools

  • Funds generated from the Nickel Tax can ONLY be used for school facility construction and renovation.

  • The Current District Facility plan lists TCHS as the priority fo school facility funds.

  • Annual projected revenue of the nickel tax:

    • $290,670 local revenue (adding $4,070,000 in bonding potential)

    • $168,180 in state matching funds (adding $2,355,000 in bonding potential)

  • Creates a total increase of $6,425,000 in bonding potential

  • The State will ONLY designate matching funds IF the school district adds the nickel tax---they WILL NOT match for anything under that amount

                               Construction Needs

New construction to replace the 1962 (29,000sf), the 1968 (34,850sf) (less the gymnasium), and part (5358sf) of the 1994 sections of the building, and major renovation of the gymnasium and auxiliary spaces (16,150sf) of all building systems, including but not limited to, mechanical, electrical and plumbing, building envelope, site development, parking, interior and exterior door and hardware replacement, life safety and security systems, new sprinkler system, ADA, code updates, interior finishes, casework, communication and technology systems. Include demolition of existing facility and phased construction.

Kentucky School Facilities Ranking(Parson's Report)

The Parson's Report includes Elementary, Middle , High, and Alternative Schools and District-owned ATCs identified in September 2010 as category 3 or 4. 485 indvidual school programs were assessed, housed in 477 buildings.

  • Trimble County High School ranked as Number 22 on page 3 of the report.

  • There are no other high Schools above Trimble County High School

  • At least 10 of the schools above TCHS have either been renovated or closed since 2011. (They are no longer on the list and no longer competing for Urgent Needs Funding.

  • Each building was asessed on the following criteria:

    • Condition---Scale of 0-100 with 0 being the best, 100 being the worst----TCHS scored 27.74 (out of 100). This makes up 75% of the Kentucky School Score.

    • Suitability Score---Scale of 0-100 with 0 being the least suitable and 100 being the most suitable---TCHS scored  69.27. This makes up 20% of the Kentucky School Score.

    • Technology Score---Scale of 0-100 with 0 being least technology ready and 100 being most technology ready---TCHS scored 46.55. This makes up 5% of the Kentucky School Score.

    • Kentucky School Score---Scale od 0-100 with 0 being the worst and 100being the best. TCHS scored 36.99 (Out of 100).

  • The cost in 2011 to repair TCHS to comply with Ky. standards was $11,042,263.

  • The cost in 2011 to replace TCHS was$13,152,292. These costs have increased since 2011.
